Job Description

Job Summary: Performs a variety of medical physics services to include developing techniques used to standardize and calibrate imaging and therapy equipment; performs treatment planning for special cases and acts as a resource to other staff regarding treatment plans, simulations, and special device fabrication; validates the accuracy of the treatment plan and provides consultation to physicians per orders; performs acceptance testing, measurements, commissioning and ongoing quality assurance testing of linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, and physics equipment to establish accuracy and safety in accordance with hospital, state, federal, and accrediting body requirements.

In addition to core clinical responsibilities of a staff medical physicist, the Senior Physicist will work with the Chief Physicist in support of Physics initiatives extending across the metro area. Performs a variety of medical physics services to include developing techniques used to standardize and calibrate imaging and therapy equipment; performs treatment planning for special cases and acts as a resource to other staff regarding treatment plans, simulations, and special device fabrication; validates the accuracy of the treatment plan and provide consultation to physicians per orders; performs acceptance testing, measurements, commissioning and ongoing quality assurance testing of linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, and physics equipment to establish accuracy and safety in accordance with hospital, state, federal, and accrediting body requirements.

Requirements:

  • Experience – Minimum Required: Ten (10) years of experience in a progressive radiation oncology department, academic experience is a plus.
    • Preferred/Desired: Experience with HDR, advanced IMRT applications for treatment as well as stereotactic treatment delivery.
  • Education – Minimum Required: Masters Level Board Eligible in medical physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
  • Special Skills – Minimum Required: Advanced computer skills.
  • Licensure/Certifications – Minimum Required: BLS CERTIFICATION WITHIN 14 DAYS OF HIRE; ABR certification
