LaQueshette, Head of Allied Health Recruiting

LaQueshette, Head of Allied Health Recruiting, on What Makes Oncology Recruiting Different

At Cancer CarePoint, oncology staffing is our exclusive focus. Since 1994, we have supported cancer programs across the country by helping them identify highly specialized oncologists.

Recently, I sat down with LaQueshette, Head of Allied Health Recruiting at Cancer CarePoint, to talk about the unique challenges of recruiting specialized oncology professionals and why an oncology-exclusive approach matters.

LaQueshette specializes in recruiting for Medical Physics, Radiation Therapy, Oncology Nursing, and Oncology Advanced Practice Provider roles.

What makes oncology recruiting different from general healthcare recruiting?

Oncology recruiting requires a deeper understanding of the clinical environment. These are highly specialized roles, and the candidate pool is often much smaller than it is in general healthcare staffing.

A Medical Physicist, Radiation Therapist, Oncology Nurse, or Oncology Advanced Practice Provider is not interchangeable with a general healthcare professional. Each role requires a specific background, clinical knowledge, and comfort level within the oncology setting.

You have to understand the urgency of the need, the treatment environment, the technology being used, and how each position impacts patient care. When a cancer program is short-staffed, it can affect treatment schedules, patient access, and the stability of the existing team. That is why oncology recruiting requires focus, speed, and a very targeted approach.

What are clients most often looking for when they come to Cancer CarePoint for allied health support?

Most clients are looking for qualified professionals who can step in quickly and contribute with minimal disruption. In oncology, there is not always time for a long learning curve. Facilities need people who understand the pace, the patient population, the technology, and the importance of continuity of care.

For Medical Physics, Radiation Therapy, Oncology Nursing, and APP coverage, clients are often trying to balance multiple pressures at once — patient access, treatment schedules, staff burnout, growth, vacancies, and hard-to-fill roles.

Our role is to help them find the right support so their teams can continue providing safe, consistent, high-quality oncology care.

How does being an oncology-exclusive staffing firm help Cancer CarePoint serve clients better?

Because oncology is all we do, we are not starting from scratch when a client reaches out. We understand the roles, the terminology, the clinical settings, and the urgency.

We also understand that every cancer program is different. A community cancer center may have very different needs than a large academic program or hospital-based department. A Radiation Therapist position can look very different depending on the equipment, treatment volume, schedule, and team structure. The same is true for Medical Physics, Oncology Nursing, and APP roles.

Our oncology-exclusive focus allows us to have more informed conversations with both clients and candidates. We can ask better questions, identify potential challenges earlier, and connect with professionals who have the specific experience needed for that environment. That level of specialization matters.

What does working for a certified woman-owned small business mean to you?

I take a great deal of pride in the fact that Cancer CarePoint remains privately owned and operated. There is a strong sense of ownership and accountability across the company because the people making decisions are closely connected to the clients, candidates, and communities we serve.

Many members of our team have been with Cancer CarePoint for 15 years or more. That level of tenure creates continuity, trust, and a depth of oncology staffing knowledge that is difficult to replicate. We have grown together, supported clients through changing markets, and built long-standing relationships with professionals across the oncology community.

Being part of a certified woman-owned small business also means we can remain flexible, responsive, and personal in the way we work. Our clients and candidates are not passed from department to department. They work with experienced people who understand their history, know their needs, and care about getting the outcome right.

What do you wish more cancer programs understood about recruiting specialized oncology talent?

I wish more programs understood how competitive and limited the oncology talent pool can be. These professionals are in demand, and the best candidates are often not actively looking.

Successful recruiting requires more than posting a job and waiting. It takes targeted outreach, relationship-building, market knowledge, and persistence. It also requires a clear understanding of what makes an opportunity attractive to the right candidate.

For specialized oncology roles, timing and communication matter. When a strong candidate is available, the process needs to move efficiently. A specialized recruiting partner can help clients understand the market, move quickly, and present the opportunity in a way that resonates with the right professionals.

What makes you proud of the work you do at Cancer CarePoint?

I am proud that the work we do supports cancer programs and the patients they serve. When we help place the right Medical Physicist, Radiation Therapist, Oncology Nurse, or APP, we are helping a facility maintain access to care and support its existing team.

These are not just staffing transactions. These are critical roles within cancer programs, and I take that seriously.

I also take pride in the relationships we build. Recruiting is about people — understanding what clients need, understanding what candidates are looking for, and working to create the right match. In oncology, that work matters.

How would you describe Cancer CarePoint’s approach to oncology healthcare recruiting?

Our approach is personal, focused, and highly specialized. We listen first. We want to understand the client’s environment, the challenges they are facing, the team structure, the schedule, the technology, and the type of professional who will be successful in that setting.

From there, we use our oncology experience, our candidate relationships, and our proprietary database to identify professionals who align with the need.

Because we focus exclusively on oncology, we understand how important it is to move quickly while still being thoughtful. The goal is not just to send resumes. The goal is to help clients find the right person for the role, the team, and the patients they serve.

Closing Thought

At Cancer CarePoint, we believe specialized oncology staffing requires specialized knowledge, strong relationships, and a hands-on approach. LaQueshette’s work reflects the heart of that mission: connecting cancer programs with the professionals they need to maintain access, continuity, and quality of care.

Cancer CarePoint supports oncology staffing needs across Medical Physics, Radiation Therapy, Oncology Nursing, Oncology Advanced Practice Providers, Dosimetry, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and additional cancer care specialties.
